SUMMARY:ChatGPT and Artificial Intelligence - Questions and Implications for Evaluators
DESCRIPTION:This event is sponsored by the Indiana Evaluators Association. \nWith the emergence of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence (AI) tools\, questions about the use of AI and its ability to assist – or replace – humans has received renewed interest and attention. Silva Ferretti will present on her experience and experiments with ChatGPT\, and reflect on whether and how we as evaluators can leverage AI in our work. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session that will focus on the questions participants have about the use of AI in their own work\, as well as what the progress of AI will mean for the field of evaluation going forward. \nNCEN members can join this event free of charge using a code that will be provided via the listserv.

SUMMARY:Designing Interactive Data Dashboards with Excel and Google: Advanced Level
DESCRIPTION:This is the second of two professional development workshops being offered by The Indiana Evaluation Association in January 2023\, and affiliates are welcome to join! \nThis advanced workshop will take your dashboards to the next level. In this hands-on\, step-by-step workshop\, Shelly and Tom will provide best practices in dashboard design to make your dashboards really pop. They will also teach you how to incorporate inferential statistics (e.g.\, t-tests) into your dashboards that update and as you slice and- dice your data. Throughout the course\, you will learn advanced features in Excel to maximize the impact of your dashboards. As part of your participation in this course\, you will have access to 6 sample interactive dashboards in Excel that you can use in your own practice. Excel features to maximize to have the chance to learn some  “smart” visualizations that your clients will be asking “how’d you do that?”. \nYou will learn: \n\nBest practices in designing your dashboards to maximize impact\nFour effective dashboard layout techniques\nAdvanced features in Excel to customize your dashboards for various stakeholders\nHow to integrate inferential statistics (e.g.\, t-tests) into your dashboards\n\nPrerequisites: \n\nKnowledge of both PivotTables and Slicers in Excel is required (Consider taking the  beginner workshop in advance to get caught up!)\n\nThe link to register can be found HERE. NCEN members can register for free with the code provided via the listserv.

DESCRIPTION:The Indiana Evaluation Association will be offering two professional development workshops in January 2023\, and affiliates are welcome to join! \nCreating dynamic dashboards in Excel and Google is a fantastic and cost-effective way to view important data with minimal construction time. This workshop takes you through all you need to know to design interactive dashboards from start to finish in Excel and Google Sheets. Shelly and Tom will provide you with practical\, hands-on\, step-by-step instructions to turn your static data table into a dynamic dashboard that will “wow” your stakeholders. We will demonstrate how to use Pivot Tables\, PivotCharts\, and Slicers to create well-designed dashboards that allow your stakeholders to slice-and-dice the data in seconds. You will leave the workshop with clear steps that you can immediately implement to create stunning dashboards that are pliable\, dynamic  and easy to reproduce. \nYou will learn: \n\nHow to use PivotTables\, PivotCharts\, and Slicers to create interactive dashboards\nQuick visualization tips and tricks to customize your dashboards for stakeholders\nHow to secure your dashboard using built-in protection features\nDifferent chart types to display data in the most meaningful way\n\nPrerequisites: \n\nBasic knowledge of Excel (e.g.\, charts\, basic formulas)\nPivotTable knowledge is helpful\, but not necessary to take this workshop\n\nThe link to register can be found HERE. SUMMARY:Unpacking Health Equity with Institutions and Communities: A Roundtable Discussion
DESCRIPTION:The Chicagoland Evaluation Association invites members of local AEA affiliates to our event Unpacking Health Equity with Institutions and Communities: A Roundtable Discussion.\n\nCEA invites you to a virtual roundtable of evaluators addressing health equity in  Chicagoland. Health equity is a complex issue because it overlaps with policies\, systems\, and environments\, as well as community-level context and health disparities that are historic and closely linked to systemic discrimination of resources. As a point of departure in this event\, we will acknowledge the disconnect between health equity as a concept held by institutions and the application of health equity in communities. All panelists will then share their journey as champions for health equity. We hope to see you there.\n\nPanelists are Erik Elías Glenn\, Christina Iyengar\, Diana Lemos\, and Gregory Phillips II. Shana Alford will facilitate the discussion.\n\nMembers of local AEA affiliates enter code LACCEA112022 to register for free.\nRegister here: https://www.evalchicago.org/event-5009876

SUMMARY:Qualitative Data Visualization with Jonathan Schwabish
DESCRIPTION:Most charts and graphs are built on top of spreadsheets or databases of quantitative data. Focusing on numbers alone without any context\, however\, can overlook important aspects of a story including the “why” and the “how.” This presentation is geared towards data scientists\, researchers\, and other analysts who are faced with the prospect of quickly summarizing and visualizing non-numerical information collected through means of observations\, interviews\, focus groups\, surveys\, and other methods. Through numerous examples\, I’ll show you how to move beyond the dreaded Word Cloud to create better\, more engaging\, and more insightful data visualizations. \nThis event is sponsored by the Indiana Evaluation Association. You can register to participate at this link: \nhttps://indianaevaluation.org/Events \nNCEN members are being offered the opportunity to join for free. You just need to register as an AEA affiliate and use the code: Oct2022IEA (remember members only) \n

SUMMARY:The Equitable Evaluation Framework-Seattle Evaluation Association (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:This event\, organized by the Seattle Evaluation Association\, is free to attend. Register to attend here: https://evalseattle.org/event-4980949 \nJoin us for our annual business meeting and learn more about the Equitable Evaluation Framework.  \nAs philanthropy evolves and moves to centering equity\, assessment\, research\, learning\, and evaluation strategies must also evolve. What is the Equitable Evaluation Framework (EEF) and how do we engage with the EEF? Join your colleagues to learn more about how the Equitable Evaluation Initiative is seeding and growing a field of EEF practitioners to shift the paradigm. \nMarcia Coné\, Director of Practice Engagement and Evolution at the EEF\, leads the Equipping for Transformation cadré of support to Practice Partners. Her focus is on building a field of evaluation\, learning\, and research practitioners who advance the Equitable Evaluation Framework by expanding definitions of rigor\, validity\, and embracing 21st century complexity. \nIn the summer of 2020 Marcia launched the Equipping for Transformation Practice Partner Platform\, a robust ecosystem of organizations and individuals in multiple spaces and modalities design to help partners interrogate and evolve their evaluation practices\, promote shared inquiry and learning\, reflect and innovate\, catalyze cross-sector thought leadership\, and contribute to field-building. \nFor nearly three decades\, Marcia has worked in partnership with NGOs\, Philanthropy\, PSOs\, and Grassroots and Grasstops leaders to shift the paradigm and create cultures where intersectional equity is at the center. She brings a depth and breadth of experience that fuels her passion for moving the philanthropic sector away from a traditional framework towards bold philanthropy that is a catalyst for change. \nFollowing the keynote address\, the Seattle Evaluation Association will review the last year at the association and discuss plans for the year to come.
